Sir,—While I am delighted that Eoghan Ó hÁinle (Letters, HI 23.3, May/June 2015) was more attuned in his youth to the experience of the Irish in the First World War than I was myself, and while, as a culturally impoverished inhabitant of rural Ireland, I envy the fact that the Irish National War Memorial Garden was his childhood playground, perhaps I might point out that I did not inform Professors Kevin B. Nowlan and F.X. Martin that the Irish Parliamentary Party leader John Redmond had enlisted in the British Army and served in the war. I believe I
suggested that it was his brother, William Redmond, who died at the Battle of Messines in June 1917.—Yours etc.,
MYLES DUNGAN
