History Ireland recently received an AIB Better Ireland Award in the ‘arts and communication’ category in recognition of its contribution to Irish cultural life. The proceedings were transmitted live from the AIB headquarters in Ballsbridge and televised on RTE on 10 January 1995 and presented by Pat Kenny. Dublin editor, Tommy Graham, is pictured here receiving the award (and a £5,000 cheque) from President Mary Robinson, and reminding her to renew her husband’s subscription. The editors and all those involved in the production of HI would like to take this opportunity to thank all those institutions and individuals, both at home and abroad, who have helped to get this project off the ground from a standing start two years ago. In particular we would like to thank the contributors, you, the readership, and especially our subscribers (now numbering around 3,500).
