Mexican muddle
Michael F.X. Hogan (‘The Irish Soldiers of Mexico’, HI Winter 1997), has informed us that University Press of the South, mentioned at the end of the article as supplier of his book The Irish Soldiers of Mexico for $49.95, is not an authorised distributor. It is available for the much more reasonable price of $16 (+ $3 p&p) from S. Barlow, 2 Nicol Terrace, Newport, RI 02840, tel: (401) 8468054. He also points out that over 9,000 US soldiers deserted during the Mexican War and not 5,000 as stated (bottom first column, p43).
