Sir,—I am one of many who don’t know much about Michael Collins, but I have done an oral history of someone who served under him from 1919 until the split. This man clearly read Tim Pat Coogan’s biography as stating that Collins was a ‘womaniser’ (contrary to Ian McKeane, HI Autumn 1995), but asserted that he had not been aware of this previously. Incidentally, I have almost tired of trying to alert some Collinsophile that a letter he wrote the night before he was shot, which may shed some light on the activites surrounding his death, resides in an obscure repository in Australia.
