Dublin City Council and forthcoming centenaries

Sir,—In late 2010 Dublin City Council’s Arts and Culture Strategic Policy Committee established a commemoration sub-committee to plan how Dublin City Council should commemorate that have significant anniversaries occurring over the next six years. Since this is a Dublin City Council initiative, the events to be commemorated will be those that have a close association with the capital city. The sub-committee has decided that the 1913 Lock Out, the 1916 Rising and the involvement of Dublin people in the First World War are the three significant events that Dublin City Council should commemorate. The sub-committee has started to compile a list of commemorative events but would welcome any suggestions from members of the public as to how they believe these significant historic events should be commemorated by the City Council.
