The Department of History, University of Aberdeen, announces a major conference, History at the margins: Scottish and international perspectives on women from 29 June to 1 July 1996, which will examine the experience of women and women’s history in geographically ‘peripheral’ areas of Europe such as Scotland, Ireland, Spain and Scandinavia. Speakers include: Ida Bloom (University of Bergin) on comparative aspects of women and welfare in Ireland, Scotland and Norway; Grey Osterud (Radcliffe College, Harvard) on the historiographical implications of research into the lives of farmwomen: Mary O’Dowd (Queen’s University, Belfast) on the experience of women in colonial Ireland.
