Ireland’s Military Heritage

The Military Heritage of Ireiand Trust Limited was established in June 2000 on an all-lreland basis, to promote a greater knowledge and appreciation of all aspects of Ireland’s military heritage, including the military service of Irish men and women in the Defence Forces and foreign armies. The trust has received the co-operation and support of the military museums in Armagh, Belfast, and Enniskillen for the establishment of the military galleries in the National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks, Dublin. These will be opened in 2003.
The trust, in co-operation with the Department of Modern History, Trinity College, Dublin, has initiated a project to develop electronic and print resources to facilitate research into all aspects of the military service of Irish men and women from the earliest times to the present day. Brian Hanley has been engaged to undertake this project (grant-aided by The Ireland Fund) in conjunction with Eunan O’Halpin.
