Our new look March/April special issue on Brian Boru is out now. The current mania for commemorations is focusing on events a century ago, but don’t forget what happening a millennium ago: the battle of Clontarf in 1014. There is an impressive national programme of events, the National Museum are weighing in with a new exhibition on Clontarf and 1014, and the Royal Irish Academy are running an exhibition and series of lunchtime lectures on ‘1014 and all that‘ through March and into April (including one by our special guest editor for March/April, Sean Duffy of TCD).
That brings us to our current issue, which includes:
- Charles Doherty on Viking Ireland.
- Clare Downham on Clontarf in the wider world.
- Clare O’Halloran on the legend of Brian Boru.
- Donal Fallon on commemorating Clontarf in 1914.
And a healthy mix of news, reviews, geneology, oral history and more besides.
The March/April issue of History Ireland is in the shops new. Alternatively, you can start a subscription with this issue. Enjoy!
