Nice one Síle
Following our trenchent criticism of the powers-that-be in the last issue for their inadaquate funding of our national institutions it is only fair to give credit where it is due. Last December the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Síle de Valera, announced £13,000,000 expansion programme for the National Archives in Dublin. Under the development programme much needed storage facilities will be provided, including state-of-the-art mobile shelving systems with proper humidity and environmental control. The planned rear extension, which will take several years to complete, will add a capacity of 350,000 boxes to the existing Bishop Street premises’ 100,000 (each box with a capacity of two-thirds of a cubic foot).
